Important IPEX Product Announcement: Effective October 31, 2008, IPEX will discontinue the production and the sale of WarmRite Floor® pipe, fittings and accessories for the North American hydronic heating market. Unfortunately, the WarmRite product line no longer meets the business targets that IPEX requires. Increased competitive pressures and poor market conditions have resulted in the continuing decline of WarmRite sales and profitability. Select WarmRite components will remain in our inventory for a period of time in order for customers to complete, maintain and service their heating systems. Our current limited warranty will continue to apply to all WarmRite products installed. IPEX would like to thank you for your continued support. We look forward to servicing your future plastic piping system needs with our broad offering of core products. We will be pleased to work with you to resolve any inconvenience that this product discontinuation may cause. More: KWD-globalpipe, 2008-11-04, No.297.

In mid-September, the 14th pipe symposium of Cincinnati Extrusion Gmbh drew an absolute record number of over 600 international visitors. On two days, the latest trends and newly developed technologies in pipe extrusion were presented.
With the six extrusion lines shown in full production, Cincinnati Extrusion demonstrated its great wealth of expertise covering an extensive range of applications.
The complete production line demonstrated in cooperation with Nexans, with a total of four extruders, two Talos 60-30 G models with screws optimized for PEX and two co-extruders, was ideally suited for high-speed applications. It reached a line speed of 40 m/min producing a 16-mm pipe with a wall thickness of 2 mm from a PEX-b resin, which came from Solvay Padanaplast. The process applied in this case was TIG butt welding.

UNICOR GmbH in Hassfurt, Germany, has developed new corrugators for quick and easy in-line production of protective pipes for PEX, ALU-PEX-pipes and protective pipes for cables. The UC 58/90 (V) as well as the UC 58/120 (V) are UNICOR‘s efficient solutions for pipe-in-pipe production and cable insertion within the pipe diameters from 8 mm i.d. up to 58 mm o.d. The in-line production of pipe-in-pipe or the direct insertion of electric wire into corrugated pipe save one cost-intensive step in the production process by integrating the final fabrication into the production cycle. Thus, additional handling costs can be saved. Combined with only low maintenance UC 58/90 V and UC 58/120 V are the machines guaranteeing for economic success. UNICOR’s pipe-in-pipe technology is also available with the medium-sized corrugators UC 75 and UC 100. More: www.unicor.com.

This year, Nexans is to launch a new machine in the UNIWEMA® (UNIversal WElding MAchine) series which is capable of producing even larger corrugated tubes. Here, single and double-wall corrugated tubes are used in cases requiring a flexible, high-capacity and, if necessary, heat-insulating transport medium or secure sheathing, e.g. as mechanical protection in the implementation of media cables. The new UNIWEMA® U650 produces tubes with external diameters of up to 650 mm and wall thicknesses of up to 3 mm; the length of the corrugated tube is restricted exclusively by the transport capacities. + + + A Nexans UNIWEMA® (UNIversal WElding MAchine, see photo) produces corrugated tubes by forming stainless steel tapes into tubes, welding them longitudinally and, using the corrugating tool, impressing the characteristic corrugated structure.

After the successful development of thin wall steel multi layer pipe production systems from 3 to 110 mm pipe diameter, THE has successfully finalised a thin wall Aluminium welding line. The equipment is available in the range from 3 to 12 mm pipe diameter and from 10 to 40 mm this for Aluminium wall thickness between 0.08 mm to 0.3 mm and production speeds up to 50 m/min. The lines are designed to accept standard Aluminium foils which can be used without edge cutting, this means no scrap is generated. The forming tool design is based on the well proved THE design, successfully used by many companies in the field of multi layer pipe production and for precision pipe production plants. A new compacting system (Pat Pend.) after welding grants an absolute perfect bonding between
the plastic and the metal layers. More: KWD-globalpipe, 2008-09-16, No.290.
