SILON is one of the largest producers of polyester fibres and compounds in Central Europe with modern and diverse product portfolio, along with a complete range of technical services and the world leader in PE-Xb compounds for pipes with production plants in Czech Republic, Canada and China. |
After copper- ,iron und various plastic pipes (PP-R, PB and PEX) now multilayer pipes are conquering the world of hot and cold water systems (inhouse).
5 layer pipe for hot and cold systems with an Aluminum diffusion barrier layer. A bonding agent is applied on the PE-RT or PE-X inner pipe. The Aluminum layer is then either butt welded or welded with overlap. After the second bonding layer has been put on, the outer PE pipe is extruded. As pipe joints clamping, sliding or compression sleeves can be used. The pipe is perfectly gas and oxygen tight.
These expressions are used synonymously for multilayer pipes:
- Sandwich Tube / Pipe – not very popular, only used for water, sewage and district heating
- Plastic – Aluminium – Plastic (PAP) but also Composite Pipes is predominantly used in the Asian countries.
- Multilayer Pipes or Metal-Plastic Multilayer Pipes is the typical name in Europe, Middle East and North America.
The current norm/standard definition according to ISO CD 21003
knows M-type and P-type:
M-Type=Multilayer Metal Pipes:
- PEX+AL+PEX+Adhesives
- PE-RT + AL + PE-RT – Adhesives
- other combinations
P-Type = Multilayer Plastic Pipes:
- PEX + Adhesives + EVOH etc
- PE-RT + Adhesives + EVOH etc
- Other combinations
PP-R/AL Composite pipes are not multilayer pipes according to ISO CD 21003 because the pipes are only sticked and not welded (connection by welding or connection by adhesives is demanded).
